Tracking the Evolution in Residential and Mobile Internet TrafficAbstract
In recent years the deployment of high-speed broadband and mobile networks has been driving the growth of Internet traffic. Tracking such traffic trend is a crucial issue for network management and operation. We have been working on characterizing residential and mobile traffic behaviors in Japan. The first half of the talk introduces the evolution of nation-wide residential broadband traffic in Japan over 10 years, based on SNMP and Netflow measurements in major Japanese ISPs. The second half is dedicated to the evolution and diversity in network usage of smartphones with measurement campaigns held in the greater Tokyo area in 2013-2015.
